10:36am Monday 12th November 2007

Herne Hill Harriers' men squad stuttered in the second fixture in the Surrey cross-country league after losing six of the 10 in the original team due to sickness and injuries.

Dave Taylor was fifth in his first race after the World veteran championships in Italy and was followed home by fellow veterans Keith Newton sixth and Dave Robinson 12th. Other scorers in the HHH squad of 29 runners were Rob Karn 16th, Andrew Dunwoody 24th, Tim Elsey 25th, Jeff Cunningham 26th, Simon Combes 33rd, Vic Maughn 40th and Paul Stevens 41st.

Hill scored 227 points behind Thame's 154 and now lag 100 points behind the leaders in this eight team contest with two matches to come.

The U15 men were second but the U13 team maintained its stranglehold on the league with another team victory.

Herne Hill women went out to Cranford near Heathrow for their League cross-country battle and moved up to second with a good chance of taking the title in the next two matches.

Karen Ellison again shone with ninth spot and was backed in the five to score match by Helen Hadjam 12th, Clare Pauzers 13th, Caroline Warrington 21st and Helena Lackzo 24th. Helena then rushed off to the airport to catch a plane to Slovakia for a trip home! The U13, U15 and U17 girl's teams all finished third at this fixture.
