Bees boss Andy Scott reckons the turn around in the club’s fortunes since taking charge is more down to the players than his back room regime.

Scott celebrates his first year anniversary in the Griffin Park hotseat next month and has enjoyed 12 months of almost unchecked progress during his reign.

Brentford were staring at the prospect of dropping out of the Football League under Terry Butcher when he took over, and now fans see their side in touch with the League Two promotion race.

The former Leyton Orient youth team manager must take credit for the about turn, but he insists it is the club’s recruitment policy that has paid greater dividends.

“I’ve worked hard for what I’ve achieved. I have been very determined and fortunately I have some good staff members with me, who work very hard behind the scenes,” he said.

“Yes, you’’ve got to get the right players in, but they have got to gel. They get on great, they are a great set of lads and they are enjoying it.

“Everyone talks about our team spirit and sometimes it is over played. You have got to have ability to go with it and we have got that in abundance.

“We are not getting carried away. This is a tight league and two defeats can see us slip out of it.”

Brentford’s next three games: Nov 28 AFC Barrow (FA Cup, a), Dec 6 Accrington (a), Dec 13 Bradford City (h).
