Scott happy with Bees squad as deadline looms

Brentford boss Andy Scott reckons only an injury will see him bring in any new faces ahead of next week's transfer deadline.

The Griffin Park chief picked up Bristol City defender James Wilson on a month long loan last week, which saw the centre-back slip seamlessly into action alongside Mark Phillips in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Southampton.

Alan Bennett has been ruled out until mid-September at the earliest with a groin injury picked up in the 2-1 win over Norwich City earlier this month leaving the Bees short of staff at the back.

Scott will have the option of extending Wilson’s stay to three months - irrespective of the transfer window closing - but has confessed it is unlikely the player will become a permanent signing any time soon.

“James was someone I wanted to bring to the club irrespective of Alan’s injury. He plays in an area we need to strengthen and hopefully we can keep him longer,” he said.

“We know that he recently signed a new contract with Bristol and how highly they regard him, so it is unlikely we’ll get him permanently.

“I’m happy with the squad we now have got together. I’m not actively following someone and I don’t expect to sign anyone between now and the window closing unless we pick up any significant injuries.”

Scott’s interest in 20-year-old former Crystal Palace winger James Dayton has waned after having run the rule over him during 45 minutes of action for the reserves against Aldershot Town - a game which saw Marcus Bean complete 90 minutes.

“It was a chance to have a look at James in a situation other than training. It wasn’t a trial and it isn’t something we are taking any further,” he added.
