Former Carshalton Athletic striker Richard Jolly has taken a pay-cut to sign for rivals Sutton United to spearhead their Ryman League Premier Division title bid next season.

Jolly bagged 31-goals to pick up the Ryman League Golden Boot in 2009, before hitting 19-goals last season for the relegation threatened Robins.

He is one of three new faces at the club confirmed this week following the capture of 22-year-old Kennedy Adjei (season loan) and 18-year-old striker Peter Rapson from the Dons, as Doswell is forced to perform surgery on his squad this summer.

The manager is expecting to add a centre-half, two midfielders and another striker - believed to be Eastleigh’s Andy Forbes - to his roster by the end of the month, with six definitely heading for the exit door.

Francis Quarm, Sonny Cobbs and Sam Gargan are expected to turn down the offer of new contracts in the hopes of moving to clubs at a higher level.

“I’m delighted to have got hold of Richard. He is exactly the sort of player we have lacked in the last couple of years,” said Doswell.

“I tried to get him on loan at the end of last season for the play-offs, but Carshalton said no at the time.

“We were allowed to speak with him at the end of the season if they could speak to Anthony Joseph - which they are - and I’m pleased to say it was a five minute conversation.

“Richard has taken a substantial pay cut to come here and all he asked me was if I thought we could do well next season. It was purely about football.”

The revolving door means only 11 players who were at the club last season will be in the first team squad for the coming campaign, and Doswell says that proves his commitment to keeping the nucleus of a good side.

“The continuity is still there. You can’t stop some players from leaving if they want to play at a higher level,” he added.

“We’ve got the same defence that did so well for us last year and we are adding a few more.”
