Richmond skipper Kevin Barrett says there is a long way to go after watching his side move in to pole position in the Middlesex County League Division Two title chase.

The Old Deer Park side secured a winning draw at bottom club Kenton on Saturday thanks largely to 76 from leading run scorer Dominic Ridley and Jimmy Mugnaioni’s 4-52.

It was enough to put Richmond top ahead of this weekend’s trip to Harrow, who they beat by nine wickets earlier in the season.

But with seven games of the season remaining Barrett insists his men will not become complacent.

“It is nice to be top of the table but there is no chance of us counting our chickens,” he said.

“A lot of the sides we are playing now have completely different teams to the ones we played earlier in the season and the weather conditions are favouring teams with spinners.

“We’re just going to keep concentrating on the basics, bat with determination and bowl with discipline.

“We will sometimes have to be savvy with the way we play in games, but essentially we are going out to win every game.”

Ridley passed the 600 Middlesex County League run mark at the weekend and Barrett admits his efforts have given his side an edge this season.

“Dom is a phenomenal player with immense ability. We are lucky to have him in the side,” he added.

“We are all enjoying our cricket. Some players are playing to phenomenal levels at the moment and if we can keep playing good cricket we’ve got the chance of going up.”

Teddington inflicted a third successive defeat on defending champions Ealing to blow the Premier Division title chase wide open at the weekend.

Eighty-one from prolific opener James Keightley helped skipper James Wade’s visitors to 191 in the face of top clase spin bowling from Chris Peploe (3-70) and Sameer Patel (5-37).

The hosts did not heed the warning as Duncan Wood (5-60) and David Keightley (4-64) ripped through Ealing’s defences with only Mylo Wilkin (56*) showing any sort of resistence.

Twickenham were held to a losing draw at Brondesbury despite Tom Meredith (88), Dan Housego (60) and Petert Richards (51) seeing them on their way to 278 for eight.

The late withdrawal of spinner JP Cronje left skipper Carlos Nunes short of options in the slow bowling department and the hosts - through Chris Paget (78) and Mark Turner (62) - were able to secure the four points.

Fixtures: Twickenham v Stanmore, Teddington v Finchley, Harrow v Richmond, Barnes v Highgate.
