An open athletics meeting at Tooting on Saturday provided the stage for three young Croydon Harriers to display their winning talent.

Both boys tackled the 800m with U13 Robert Spalding making an impressive debut.

He ran his race confidently from the front, to achieve a clear victory with a PB of 2:32.97.

He also won the high jump with an equal best of 1.40m.

U17 Jack Thoroughgood, an early leader stayed calm when passed at the bell and produced victorious surge in the final stages to win in 2:10.5.

Emerging U20 shot put prospect Temi Ladega produced the best distance of the day with his 14.08m heave.

While several others successfully availed themselves of the opportunity, none held the attention more than veteran 50 enthusiast Colin Oxlade, who provided the meeting’s grand finale when he soloed in the 3k steeplechase in 11:57.

Technical athletes will now be looking forward to the Croydon Harriers/Slan Open Field and Hurdles Meeting which will be held at Sutton Arena on Sunday 19th September.
