Kingstonian's sparkling start to the season continues with a late winner from unstoppable danger man Dean Lodge snatching all the points away from a dangerous Margate side.

In fact the Seasiders must be scratching their heads wondering how they came away from Kingsmeadow empty-handed after launching wave upon wave of attacks on the K's goalmouth.

But the K's defended well and when breached keeper Rob Tolfrey had a flawless afternoon. A vital double save from Tolfrey in the last ten minutes, denying the Gate the lead, will live long in the memory.

The K's now go on their travels to the Kent Riviera to take on Folkestone Invicta tomorrow evening (Tuesday September 7th with a 7..45pm k.o.) in more league action.

Next Sunday September 12th the K's are on the Wembley road when they will entertain under-fire Croydon Athletic in the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round, with a 3pm k.o.

Margate took the game by the scruff of the neck right from the start pushing the K's back. On just two minutes midfielder Wayne Wilson sent in a dangerous inswinging corner from the left which Rob Tolfrey punched clear on the far post.

It was Wilson again who sent in a high but penetrating cross from the right for experienced striker Shaun Welford to chase but the ball evaded him. On 9 minutes striker Carl Wilson-Denis was sandwiched on the edge of the away box.

Matt Gray's free-kick was half-cleared to Lodge on the edge of the away box but he sliced his drive wide.

Another excellent cross from Wilson meant for Welford in the K's goalmouth was headed out by K's defender Dean Hamlin. A Wilson corner found his skipper Jay Saunders just inside the K's box but his header went wide of the far post.

On 13 minutes a half-volley from K's striker Bobby Traynor from distance was comfortable for Gate keeper Jamie Turner. Then attacking defender Tom Bird sent in a pacy cross from the left deep into the Gate goalmouth but defender John Keister coolly headed clear.

On 19 minutes the Gate went close when Welford took off in the K's box but Tolfrey was out quickly to make a fine point-blank save conceding a corner.

A Wilson free-kick from the left was punched clear by Tolfrey under some pressure.

On 37 minutes Tommy Osborne took off down the left finding ex-K's man James Pinnock just inside the K's box, in space, but he fired over.

The K's finished the half on the attack, a Gray throw from the right set Lodge free along the edge of the Gate box but he skied the ball over.

In the final minute of the half Gray thundered in a free-kick that was only inches wide of the far post with a stationary Turner looking on.

The K's started the second half in the same attacking frame of mind. On 51 minutes Lodge, who was becoming an increasing threat, let loose a rising drive from the edge of the Gate box but it was straight at Turner.

A fierce Wilson-Denis drive from outside the away box was pushed away by Turner.

Then Gate centre back Curtis Robinson made a fine tackle to stop an insurgent Lodge.

Then a useful one-two between Wilson-Denis and Lodge saw him prod the ball into the Gate goalmouth for Traynor but he was blocked. Just after the hour mark a Lodge cross from the left flank was knocked down for Gray who blasted over first-time. Back came ther visitors and it was no surprise when Wilson sent in a free-kick from 25 yards that was just wide of the far post.

Osborne then received a yellow card for upending Lodge on the halfway line.

On 78 minutes Saunders went on a mazy run but his eventual drive was underhit. Three minutes later Welford took off down the left picking out sub Ishmail Kamara deep in the K's box but his drive was pushed away by a full-stretch Tolfrey. Then Robinson threaded a ball through to Kamara deep in the K's box but again Tolfrey was out quickly to block, Welford made the follow-up, but again the K's keeper threw himself bravely in front of the ball to save a certain goal.

The Wilson corner found an unmarked Laurence Ball on the far post but his header went straight to a well-placed Tolfrey on his line. Immediately, on 84 minutes, Tolfrey launched a long clearance finding Traynor, his perfectly weighted pass from the edge of the Gate box set DEAN LODGE free and he skillfully curled the ball home around the outcoming Turner.

In the final minute of the game Kamara, who was one hell of a handful, turned on the edge of the K's box and unleashed a powerful drive that Tolfrey pushed out.

Then Ball sent in a cross from the right that wa punched clear by Tolfrey. In the second of three minutes of additional time the Gate had one last chance to grab a point when Wilson sized up an an edge of the box free-kick but his effort floated out to safety.
