Sutton United boss Paul Doswell reckons defender Jason Goodliffe has a bright future as a manager ahead of him.

The 36-year-old England non-League international picked up a calf injury in the recent Ryman League Cup defeat to Walton Casuals and after a series of niggling injuries this term, has decided to call it a day.

Goodliffe joined United in 2009 having lifted the Ryman Premier Division title with AFC Wimbledon having been best known for a successful seven year stint at Stevenage Borough where he clocked up more than 150 appearances.

And Doswell believes that experience alone should give him a good start in management.

“You never say never in football, but it looks like that will be it for Jason. It has been one injury after another and it comes to the point where you wonder if the body can take it any more,” he said.

“He wants to get into coaching, but I would think he will make a better manager than a coach.

“He has had a brilliant career, knows the game inside out and has played under five or six superb managers like Terry Brown and Graham Westley.

“If he can take bits and pieces he has learned from them and then stamp his own mark on things, then I think he has got a bright future.”
