AFC Wimbledon 1-0 Fleetwood Town

The Dons were indebted to Christian Jolley's late goal as they beat Fleetwood by the narrowest of margins.

His 12th goal of the season six minutes from time pushed Wimbledon four points clear at the top of the Conference.

Terry Brown's team have once again demonstrated their powers of recovery.

Thrashed 4-1 at York City on Tuesday night, it was feared that their humbling at Bootham Crescent would see their title-hopes unravel.

But they won't be giving up any time soon after Jolley – the summer addition from Kingstonian – came good again.

Manager Brown was delighted with the 22-year-old, who is quickly catching up with leading scorer Danny Kedwell in the goals chart.

He said: “Christian is a real goal machine. He’s done a lot better than we expected and is improving all the time.

“We asked our wide boys to give Danny Kedwell some more help and they did that today.

“We won most of the ball and we created more than we did against York so I have to be pleased.

“We restricted Fleetwood, who are a very good side, to half chances. We may have got our goal out of the blue but we deserved that break.

“We have not had a lot of rest but the players worked their hearts out. I was a bit disappointed with my midfield today but it's a very big three points, you can't argue against that.”

Jolley's goal came when Wimbledon needed it most. Cod Army keeper Scott Davies couldn't keep hold of the ball and it squirmed into the path of the Dons attacker who didn't need asking twice.

Fleetwood manager Micky Mellon said his team didn't deserve to leave Kingsmeadow empty-handed.

“We’ve lost the match because our goalkeeper’s dropped a ball in the six-yard box,” said Mellon. “It was a cheap goal, and one moment has cost us again.

“I think we were the better side today. They’ll feel very fortunate to come away with three points.”
