James Mulley has come out fighting by insisting that AFC Wimbledon are more than capable of claiming the Blue Square Premier title this season.

The Dons sit top of the pile, three points ahead of Crawley Town, who have four games in hand.

But despite that, Mulley reckons it is all to play for.

He said: “All of the players definitely believe that we can win the title.

“We know that Crawley have games in hand on us but we have to make sure we stay ahead of them.

“With us having won our last two games and Crawley drawing at Wrexham on Tuesday that has given everyone another lift.

“We have the chance to increase that this weekend with them playing Manchester United and we have to make the most of that.

“I think the key for us is to try and stay ahead of them until we play them again in March as if we can do that anything is possible.

“For us the play-offs are a minimum and as long as we look after ourselves we can aim even higher.”

A Manchester United fan himself, midfielder Mulley admits he will be glued to the box when Crawley travel to Old Trafford for their FA Cup glamour tie.

And the 22-year-old reveals he had mixed emotions when the draw was made.

Mulley added: “I think the words jealousy and envy spring to mind.

“But I also think Crawley deserve it - they have got through a number of tough ties like Swindon and Torquay, none of which were really big games, so good luck to them.

“It could also play into our hands as I remember after Havant & Waterlooville lost at Liverpool a few years back they went on a bad run.

“Hopefully we can get a positive result ourselves and then enjoy watching it on the television.”

That positive result will hopefully come at Tamworth, where the Dons will hope to do the double after seeing off Saturday’s hosts 3-0 back in August, with Danny Kedwell (two) and Sammy Moore on target.

Mulley added: “We do not take anything for granted but it is very much a case of taking things one game at a time and not looking too far ahead.

“Terry has set us our own targets and all we can do is concentrate on winning our own games and taking it from there.“
