Quins winger Seb Stegmann will get back to his best, is the ringing endorsement he got from skipper Chris Robshaw this week.

The 22-year-old made his first XV comeback in Saturday’s 17-15 win at Worcester Warriors as a second-half replacement.

Stegmann, who is dual registered with Championship side Esher this season, has battled back from two cruciate knee ligament ruptures since his last senior Quins appearance in 2009.

And Robshaw, who knows a thing or two about long-term injury comebacks having broken his leg in his time, has backed him to go from strength to strength.

“It was a great return for him. Just to come back from those injuries is seriously hard work to say the least,” he added.

“Once you get that first tackle out of the way or that first carry, the injury goes to the back of your mind.

“He’ll find his way back into it and he’ll be back to his best in no time.”

And director of rugby Conor O’Shea, who revealed Stegmann will start against Sale Sharks on Saturday in place of ankle injury victim Ugo Monye, feels the same way.

“He was on a real upward curve when he got injured so to get him back and to the level he was at, will make him a great addition to the squad this season,” he added.

Young flier Sam Smith, plagued by injury last term during a purple patch of try scoring form, got his second score in as many games at the weekend.

O’Shea added: “It was straight off the training ground and at the end of the game we showed we could find a way to win the game.”

James Johnston and Joe Marler will return to the Quins pack at the weekend to take the strain of Tim Fairbrother and Mark Lambert.

Meanwhile, Monye and fellow ankle injury victim Ross Chisholm are expected back in action next week.
