Hot on the heels of Thierry Henry's return to Arsenal and Paul Scholes' emergence from retirement for Manchester United, AFC Wimbledon brought their own legend back this week.

Jason Euell, who played 177 games and scored 47 goals for Wimbledon between 1995 and 2001 after coming through their academy, has returned to his roots after signing on loan for five weeks from Charlton Athletic.

His signature is the highlight of busy week for the Dons, who also broke their transfer record on Tuesday by signing ex-Carshalton Athletic striker Byron Harrison from Stevenage on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Callum McNaughton also made his loan move from West Ham permanent by signing a deal until 2014 and 18-year-old midfielder George Moncur has also joined on loan from the Hammers.

But it is the signing of Euell that has given supporters, and manager Terry Brown, a much-needed lift as they look to end a run of 12 winless league games at Port Vale on Saturday.

“I know this signing will give the fans a lift but I am also sure it will give our players a great lift," said Brown.

"He will join us for training on Thursday and I know the coaching staff are looking forward to working alongside a true Wimbledon legend.

"He will bring with him Premier League quality and Premier League experience and gives us fantastic variety in the positions he plays.

"I am sure the welcome he receives from the Dons faithful will quickly remind him of the fans’ admiration for him and his achievements with Wimbledon in the past."

Harrison has joined for a five-figure fee in excess of the Dons previous record of about £25,000 they paid for Jon Main in 2007.

He moved to Stevenage 12 months ago and scored 10 goals in 38 appearances for the League One side.

"We tried to sign Byron when he was at Ashford Town and we've kept an eye on him since then," added Brown.

"We are delighted to have finally got our man and he will bring goals and pace up front and he will be starting on Saturday.

"He has cost us a record fee but I am sure he will prove to be a great investment for the club."
