A late Amy Bryant strike sent Surbiton Ladies through to a second successive Investec Women’s Hockey Cup final thanks to a 1-0 win over Clifton at Sugden Road on Sunday, write Colin Pike and Sean Cotter.
The triumph, which keeps alive hopes of a league and cup double this season, came 24 hours after goals from Vicky Bryant and Sandra Frankland secured Surbiton a 2-2 draw with Sevenoaks in their last Women’s Hockey League Conference East clash of the campaign.
Surbiton go to Bisham Abbey on Saturday to face Buckingham in the promotion play-offs.
Meanwhile, Surbiton’s men took the lead three times at National Premier Division champions East Grinstead on Sunday, only to lose 4-3.
It left them fifth in the table and having to win two play-off games this weekend to progress to the championship finals.
They are at fourth-placed Cannock on Saturday and – if they win – either Beeston or Reading on Sunday.
