Quins connection will improve Scottish
4:57pm Friday 20th July 2012 in Sport
London Scottish head coach Simon Amor believes Premiership quality signings can help his men better last season’s ninth place Championship finish.
Amor confirmed the capture of Harlequins quartet lock Sam Twomey, flanker Joe Trayfoot, hooker Harry Allen and Miles Mantella this week.
All four have caught the attention of the England Age Group and Sevens selectors, while Twomey and Trayfoot already have their senior debuts under their belts in the LV= Cup.
Mantella, 20, showed flashes of his blistering finishing ability in National Dvision One with Rosslyn Park last season and Amor was keen to get all four on board.
“Our experience of dual registered players is very positive and we’re delighted to continue that this season,” he said.
“These four players from the Premiership champions are fantastic. They’ll add depth to our squad and each one will be pushing for a starting position.”
Scottish welcome Rotherham to the Athletic Ground on September 1 before hosting relegated Newcastle Falcons sevens days later.
The Exiles also face Gala, Llanelli and Moseley in the Pool stages of the British & Irish Cup.
“It’s been a busy summer of recruitment, both with the players and the support staff.
“We need to kick on from our first season in the Championship and we have learnt a lot of lessons of the type of game that is played in the Championship.”
