Well done: The Kingston & Poly Athletics Club double-winning Lily League girls team celebrate with their silverware
Kingston & Poly Athletics Club are celebrating a historic weekend after their young female team stormed to their first Lily B league and cup double.
Going into the Kingsmeadow cup final meeting last Saturday, Kingston had already secured the league plate.
The cup, competed for by the top six teams in the league, turned out to be a one-sided affair with Kingston dominating the points tally.
Two of Kingston’s young stars came back from adversity to claim important wins.
Laura Darcey suffered a fall early in the meeting, but came back to win the high jump (1.45m) and long jump (4.27m), while Amber Dummett struggled through an ankle injury to claim the 1,500m in
seven minutes, 44.1 seconds.
The meeting had to be abandoned before the relay events due to lightning, but the Kingston girls had already done enough to win the title, beating Croydon Harriers into first place by 54 points,
with Guildford & Godalming in third 108 points behind.
Meanwhile, last Saturday’s Kingston parkrun was won by Kevin Best, of Kingston-based running club Stragglers.
Best clocked 18 minutes, 26 seconds to claim first place.
