Park off to a winning start
Rosslyn Park enjoyed a winning start to their National League One campaign but coach Jan Bonney says there is more to come from this charges.
Nev Edwards’ try and Ross Laidlaw’s five penalties saw Park to a narrow 20-14 win over Sedgley Tigers that left Bonney grateful for Laidlaw’s boot.
However, after a good pre-season, the coach said the whole team is in good shape.
Bonney said: “I would not want to rely on Ross too much but in a tight game like that it is always good to have his ability
“Sedgley were a good side but we conceded a soft try from a lineout.
“But these are things that we will iron out as the season goes on.
“Either way, I am delighted to get that first win.
“We had a good pre-season and to take it into the matches that matter is pleasing.”
Although Park came out of the game with no injuries, he said they have good strength in depth should any players be crocked.
He said: “There is good competition for places here which is what any coach wants, but it is also important to have cover for injuries.
“We have that in most positions although some positions are weaker and those players may be finding themselves playing week in, week out.”
Park travel to title favourites Ealing, who beat Coventry 37-13 in their season opener, on Saturday.
