Hercules Wimbledon were well represented at the opening event of the London Youth Games with more than a dozen youngsters representing their respective boroughs at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday.

Zoe Illis came closest to winning as she led the Wandsworth team home in the girls U17 race.

She was fifth out of more than 100 runners in 12 minutes, 34 seconds.

Maire Gilmartin, who was first for Kensington & Chelsea, finished 10th in 12:53, while Imogen Willis was 66th in 16:02 running for Merton.

Cassian Hyde (13th, 16:32) and Ross Vance  (22nd, 17:01) led the Richmond and Wandsworth teams home in the boys U17 event. Augustin Mallon, also representing Wandsworth, was 70th in 18:46.

Matthew Gibbons was top Merton finisher in the boys U15 race taking 25th spot in 11:23. Alex Bond, also representing Merton, was 131st in 13:17.

Wandsworth’s Oscar White was 46th in the boys U13 category in 8:30, and Isabella Padt was 64th in the girls U15 race in 9:16.

Sarita Harris, representing Merton, was 125th in the girls U13 race in 10:11.

The first event of the new London Youth Games season saw a record 1,114 young Londoners compete at Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, all following in the footsteps of double Olympic champion Mo Farah who placed ninth in the U13 boys’ race at the 1994 London Youth Games.
