It's all White on the night as Hercules Wimbledon club records tumble

Hercules Wimbledon AC's Kieran White continued his record-breaking spree when he set a club men's over-35 veterans record in the Wolverton five miles road race in Buckinghamshire on Saturday.

White clocked 26 minutes, six seconds in finishing sixth out of more than 200 runners to add to the club age group records he already holds over 5km, 10km, seven miles, 10 miles and the half-marathon, all set this year.

Not far behind White was James Davis in eighth, clocking 26.45.

The club's two top road runners were missing from the Hercules Wimbledon line-up in the South of the Thames five miles championship staged in pouring rain at Reigate Priory.

But Hercules Wimbledon still made history by finishing a women's team in the event for the first time.

Claire Grima led the team home finishing seventh in 36.24, with Alison Purnell 25th in 39.59, Chloe Hawkins 28th in 40.11 and Rowena Hornshaw 65th in 49.48.

Claire was accompanied for most of the way by husband Dave who sprinted ahead at the finish to clock 36.20. Sean Crummy led the weakened men's team home finishing 29th in 32.21 ahead of Rob Tuer (35th in 32.43), Phil Glynn (41st in 33.21) and Stewart Bond (60th in 34.40).

Elsewhere, Hercules Wimbledon had a representative in the Beijing marathon in China on Sunday.

The club's most easterly-based member, Neil Fraser, clocked just outside three hours for the event.

He said: "I was fairly pleased considering I hadn't run more than 21km in the build-up to the race and I only run about 30km a week."

Two other Hercules Wimbledon long-distance runners were in action abroad over the weekend.

Monika Crouse was 1,225th out of 2,614 runners in the San Sebastian marathon in Spain in a personal best 3:26.49, while Anastasia Hancock also clocked a personal best for the distance in finishing 126th in the La Rochelle marathon in south-west France in 3:53.59.
