More than 600 runners took the paths and roads of Epsom Downs, Walton-on-the-Hill and Tadworth for the annual Tadworth Ten.

First to complete the challenging course was Kristian Lennard of South London Harriers clocking 58 minutes, 33 seconds.

Nick Wojek was second in 58:58, with Harlow ACs Dylan Matthews third in 59:43.

Lennard also helped his club to take the men’s team prize (three-to-score) with the assistance of Andy Collins, 18th in 1.03:43, and Phil Gall, 26th in 1.06:08.

The ladies’ race was convincingly won by Ellie Gosling of Reading Roadrunners in 1.06:22, a minute ahead of Clapham Chasers’ Lucie Custance in 1.07:22.

Angela Carpenter of Chichester Runners was the third lady in 1.09:20.

The ladies’ team prize went to Surbiton-based 26.2 RRC, thanks to good runs from Katherine Wilson, Julie Chasin and Elizabeth Marchant.

There was a sad note to the proceedings as host club Tadworth AC had lost its oldest member Norman Milton, 80, just before the race.

Norman had a long career in athletics, running on the track in the 1950s with Chris Brasher and Roger Bannister.

He ran in the very first Tadworth Ten in 1983, and had assisted regularly
at the event in his later years.
