Hercules Wimbledon AC's Jonathan Cornish warmed up for this weekend's England Road Relay Championships by posting his best ever parkrun time in winning the Richmond Park event on Saturday.

Cornish headed home the 300-strong field in 16 minutes eight seconds to win by a comfortable 12 seconds, and take eight seconds off his previous best parkrun time set at Brockenhurst in July.

He also posted the day's top age graded performance in the race in recording his ninth race win in nine appearances in Richmond Park.

Teenager Jack Collins posted his second best ever time for the course in finishing seventh in 18:13, while fellow teenager Zoe Ellis made it a double for Hercules Wimbledon in winning the women's race in 21:29.

Alex Robinson made it a hat-trick of Hercules Wimbledon parkrun wins by heading home 339 runners on Wimbledon Common.

Making his first appearance in the event for almost a year, he also posted a personal best of 16:22, taking 13 seconds off his previous best set in April 2010, but just failed to make the six-strong Hercules Wimbledon squad for Sutton Park, having been named as a reserve.

Robinson headed home 20 Hercules Wimbledon runners on Wimbledon Common.

Adam Harwood was 12th in 18:21, with David Scrimshaw 15th in 19:03 and Peter Collins 19th and second veteran over-40 in 19:36.

Mark Cahill was third over-40 veteran just edging out clubmate Adam Fenton, who was third veteran over-50 finisher, and both clocking personal best times of 19:38.

Lining up with Cornish for the championships in Sutton Park will be Ben Toomer, Liam White, Dominic Kiralfyi, Matt Sharp and Fred Slemeck.

Slemeck warmed up for Sutton Park by finishing runner-up in a six-mile cross-country race on Streatham Common in 37:33, while Sharp was just outside his lifetime best in the Middlesex 10km road race in Victoria Park where he finished 12th out of 200 runners in 33:12.

Ready: Hercules Wimbledon's Fred Slemeck

Three days earlier, he posted a lifetime best 3,000m time at Watford of 8:58.17, breaking the nine-minute barrier for the first time.

His dad, Maurice, was top over-65 finisher in Victoria Park in 45:00, nine seconds slower than his best time this year, while Rob Tuer also posted a season's best of 34:34 in finishing 23rd.

Another Hercules Wimbledon runner, Amy Aronson smashed more than a minute off her previous best in finishing second in the women's race in 37:00 - her time chopped 56 seconds off her previous best in the Richmond 10km in June.

Elsewhere, marathon man David Grima also posted a lifetime best of 17:01 in finishing fourth out of 180 runners in the Bishop's Park 5km parkrun event where he was also top veteran over 35 finisher.

Lisa Thomas was top veteran over-45 finisher in the Ealing half-marathon on Sunday clocking one hour 30:33 in her debut appearance over the distance.

Clubmate Gina Galbraith, also running over the distance for the first time, was seventh veteran woman over-35 in 1.32:42.

Hercules Wimbledon's Ella Dobson headed home the women's field in the Hever Castle Super Sprint Triathlon in Kent on Sunday in 1.13:24, winning by 24 seconds.

Meanwhile, also on Sunday, Zac Purnell gained his second win in three weeks when he beat a 99-strong field to win the junior parkrun 2km event in Wimbledon Park in 7:19.

Hercules Wimbledon's oldest active athlete, 75-year-old John Webster, won his first competition of the summer when he took a javelin event at an opening meeting at Tooting Bec on Sunday with a throw of 23.65m.

It was a Hercules Wimbledon veterans over-75 record and his first athletic competition since undergoing a hernia operation in April.

Webster, who has been competing for more than 60 years, said: "If I'd not done so it would have been the first season missed since leaving school."

Clubmate Kevin Burnett, who is just seven days younger than Webster, won the over-75 discus and shot and was second in the javelin.

Hercules Wimbledon have cancelled the Geoff Moulden 10km road race scheduled for this Sunday, October 4, due to lack of entries.

Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
