Kingston & Polytechnic Harrier George Corcoran led his team home to a third place finish in the opening Surrey Men’s Cross-Country League fixture of the season.
The 21-year-old clocked 27 minutes 15 seconds to win the Division Three race by 55 seconds in Richmond Park on Saturday, while there were top 10 finishes from James Robertson and Alex Thomas.
Stragglers Running Club’s Paul Lowe clocked 27:28 to finish third in the Division Two race at Newlands Corner with clubmate Martin Snodgrass (28:25) finishing eighth.
Kingston & Poly’s Phoebe Law finished second to Herne Hill Harrier Cathy Ansell in the Surrey Ladies League match at the same venue.
The 17-year-old clocked 24:27 to finish only 17 seconds behind an athlete 10 years her senior – it was only good enough to help her team to seventh in the Division Two standings.
Clubmate Mollie O’Sullivan finished third in the U15 (15:32) race as her team finished third overall.
* Duncan Woolmer and Ben Kennard led Walton Athletics Club to a fourth place finish in Surrey Men’s Cross Country League Division Two at Newlands Corner.
Woolmer finished seventh in 28 minutes 24 seconds and Kennard came 17th in 29:08.
