Sutton & District AC had an indoor weekend to remember after bringing home medals from both the county and national scene.

At the Surrey Indoor Championships, held at the David Weir leisure centre in Carshalton, the club won 11 medals, including six golds.

Lucy Hoad led the way with gold in the U17 60m, where her time of 7.74 seconds ranked her in the UK top 10 in her age group.

There were also top gongs for Jacob Veerapen (gold, U20 long jump, and silver, U20 triple jump) and Georgia Duthie (gold, U15 pole vault, and silver, U15 high jump).

Meanwhile, Andrew Enchill (U17 triple jump), Jade Ive (senior pole vault) and Maddy Sketchley (U17 pole vault) also won gold.

Sid Walters and Nicholas Veerapen won silver medals in the U20 high jump and U17 triple jump respectively, and Sophia Henlon rounded the medals off with a bronze in the U17 60m.

Further afield, at the Welsh National Indoor Championships in Cardiff, two Sutton athletes had differing fortunes.

Jake Field achieved his aim of clearing 2m in the high jump for the first time to win gold and a place in the UK top 10 in the U20s.

However, there was disappointment for Cameron Starr in the U20 200m.

Having reached the final, and looking for a top two finish, Starr ran 22.92 seconds to finish fourth.
