Croydon Harriers' U13s and 15s team battled hard at the UK Youth Development League Southern Premier division at Southampton on Saturday, but had to settle for sixth in the six-club match.

The division, which is the highest in the south of England, made for a tough competition, but there was still hope for the remainder for the season with eight A event wins and three event maximums.

Rhiannon Gayle notched a double win in the U15 girls' 200m (26.1secs) and 300m (42.2secs) with Nayana Brown providing support in the B 300m (43.2secs) to make it maximum points.

The 300m proved a happy hunting ground for Croydon, with Ezra Rodrigues (39.7secs) and Ayo Daniel (40.2secs) winning the boys' equivalent.

In the sprint hurdles, English Schools hopeful Marcia Sey won the U15 girls 75m hurdles in 11.6secs and Serena Mitchell won the B event in 12.4secs.

On the field, Kayla Bowley (4.84m, U15 girls' long jump) and Ange Gbeyo (10.97m, U13 boys' shot putt) both impressed with wins.

The U13 boys' and U15 girls' sprint relay teams closed the day in fine fashion with comprehensive victories.

Their next fixture is on May 30 at Norman Park in Bromley.
