Hercules Wimbledon’s top woman marathon runner Claire Grima has has a week to remember.

The 38-year-old was top woman finisher at the Jurassic Park multi-terrain 10km event in Budleigh Salterton, Devon, on Saturday.

She clocked 40 minues 18 seconds to finish seventh overall out of 251 runners – husband Dave was fourth overall in 39:21.

Three days earlier, Claire broke the Hercules women’s 5,000m veteran over 35 record in posting a time of 18:07.74 in a festival night on the Wimbledon Park track.

More than 80 runners took part in the five festival races and the best of the 15 Hercules athletes was Jonathan Cornish.

Fresh from taking the bronze medal in the South of England 10,000m championship at Brighton two weeks ago, he clocked 15:32.77 to finishing 11th in the fastest race of the night.

Second fastest was Joe Clark with 15:38.99.

The fastest time of the night, 14:23.55, was posted by Highgate’s Shaun Dixon ahead of Clapham Chasers’ Andy Maud (14:24.08) and Kent AC’s John Gilbert (14:48.53).

Frank Wood was top veteran over 50 finisher in a Veteran Athletic Club five miles road race in Battersea Park in 31:18, in which Dennis Williams was top over 65 veteran.

Tom Cheetham was runner-up in the over 45 category in 31:10.

Simon Rayner, who now lives in Canada, picked up the bronze medal in the World Masters over 50 5,000m championship in Lyon, France, in 4:35.14.

Elsewhere, young sprinter Jaleel Roper clocked 11.9 seconds to maintain his unbeaten record and win his 11th 100m race of the summer in the South London Athletics Network meeting at the David Weir Arena, Carshalton, on Sunday.

Clubmate Miles Ayoola was third in 13.2.

Nkasi Onyejekwe posted a personal best 14.2 in winning her girls’ U13 100m race while her sister, Adaeze went faster with a personal best of 13.5secs to finish second in the 100m.

Another winner was Latvia Casely-Hayford in the girls’ U15 100m.

This weekend, Hercules youngsters are in action in the Lily B Girls League finals at Kingsmeadow stadium on Saturday, with the older generation competing in the Veterans AC championships at Ewell.
