Hercules Wimbledon came away with two sets of medals from the annual Surrey road relay championships staged from their Wimbledon Park track headquarters on Saturday.

The senior men took silver medals and the veterans over-60 squad won bronze.

Ben Toomer was the fastest of the six silver medal-winning senior team runners clocking 14 minutes 40 seconds in lifting the team from third to second on the fifth leg, before Rob Tuer (15:26) kept the team in second spot.

First leg runner Joel Clark (14:56) handed over in sixth place with Joe Toomey (15:18) improving to fifth, Fred Slemeck (15:16) holding that position and Richard McDowell (15:15) moving through to third.

First leg runner Steve Newton (18:48) was the fastest of the bronze medal-winning over-60s trio.

Tony Austin (21:39) and Maurice Sharp (21:14) were the other members of the team.

Pete Clarke headed the over-50 team home in 15:12 on the opening leg to clock the second fastest time of the day in that age category.

Frank Wood (18:15), Simon Bodle (18:43) and Tor-Ivar Guttustod (19:43) completing the team which finished fifth.

The over-40 quartet of Peter Collins (16:23), Felix Allen (17:37), Tom Cheetham (18:35) and Stuart Fraser (16:32) finished just outside the medals in fourth place.

Marathon runner Claire Grima (17:22) was the fastest member of the senior women’s team which also finished fourth.

Susannah Evans (17:56), Lisa Thomas (19:20) and Eileen Brandley (20:22) were the other members of the quartet.
