European and world duathlon champion Alan Murchison and Bushy Park parkrun regular Emma Pallant were all smiles at the London Duathlon in Richmond Park on Sunday.
More than 3,000 people took part in the all-day event, but it was Murchison and Pallant who came out on top in some style in the individual race.
And the pair paid tribute to the vast numbers of spectators and competitors who made this year's event the largest of its type in the world.
“It’s a great thrill to compete in the world’s biggest duathlon and an even greater thrill to win it, said Murchison, who clocked two hours one minute 27 seconds for the 10K run, 44K cycle, 5K run.
"The conditions were excellent and it was a pleasure to take part in such a well organised event."
Pallant, who raced in preparation for the Adelaide ITU Duathlon World Championships, clocked 2:12:22 to win.
“The atmosphere was incredible, the weather was perfect and all the competitors and spectators were having a great time," she added.
The event which started in 2005 has grown in popularity each year and public places for this year’s event sold out four months before race day.
Tom Marshall [4:22:43] and Vikki Siversten [5:04:27] were the winners in the ultra duathlon event, which saw the pair run-cycle-run more than 100km.
