More than 40 Croydon Harriers kicked off their indoor sprints season on Sunday at Sutton Arena in the South London Athletics Network open meeting.

Two Croydon athletes topped their age groups over 60m on a competitive afternoon – 11-year-old Ayo Salako clocked 7.95 seconds in the U13 boys’ race, a time which would have ranked third in the UK in the event in 2015.

Clubmate Zoe Dake matched that feat in the U13 girls’ ranks, crossing the line in 8.35secs, just two hundredths clear of team-mate Rachel Largie-Poleon to make it a Croydon one-two in the age group.

Both times would have ranked them in the top six for their age group in 2015.

Marcia Sey was a narrow runner-up in the U15 girls’ competition in a lifetime best of 7.85secs and Edwin Miles was also second in the U20 men’s ranks in 7.11secs.

In the U17 women’s races, there were two Croydon athletes in the top three, namely Mariam Ojobowale (7.90secs) and Tosin Salami (7.93secs) finishing second and third respectively.

Verter Oppong-Kyei was third in the U17 men’s competition in 7.32secs and Coralie Mido was fifth in U20 women’s category in 8.16secs.

In parkrun action, there was a one-two-three for Croydon’s girls at the Lloyd Park meeting thanks to Jessica Moore (24 minutes 15 seconds), Saarah Nawaz (25:38) and Anna Corby (26:13).
