Two Croydon Harrier athletes scooped gold at the England Indoor Championships at Sheffield last weekend.

2014 English Schools junior boys' 100m champion Tyrese Johnson-Fisher was triumphant in the U17 men’s 60m, clocking 6.92 seconds.

The feat was matched by Marcia Sey who won the U15 girls' 60m hurdles in 8.93secs.

Bronze medals were picked up by hurdlers Robert Sakala (U20 men’s 60m hurdles, 7.99secs) and Obi Onyejekwe (U17 men’s 60m hurdles, 8.18secs).

Breanna Francis ran 8.49secs in her U15 girls 60m heat.

At the 2XU Surrey Cross-Country League, the Croydon’s men’s team missed out on promotion to the league’s top tier by just one place.

Croydon finished sixth on a treacherous afternoon at Lloyd Park, and were edged out by eventual league winners Dorking & Mole Valley and Dulwich.

The hosts were led home by Ben Savill in seventh in 30 minutes 14 seconds over the five-mile course.

David White (14th, 30:56), Ernie Hann (29th, 32:06), Alex Penfold (30th, 32:07) and Mark Lynch (53rd, 33:13) provided strong backing.

The remainder of the scoring 10 consisted of David Brown (64th, 33:32), Glenn Barden (67th, 33:39), Alan Burn (6th M50, 34:31), Dan Barnes (89th, 34:44) and Neil Aikman (105th, 35:36). 

In the boys' league at Wimbledon Common, Isaac Flanagan was first home for Croydon in 41st in the 90-strong field. Dane Lawrence (54th), Jordan O’Dongo (73rd), Ifetobi Salako (85th) and Caleb Drummond (88th) completed the Harriers contingent.

In the Surrey Women’s League, Stevie Lawrence equalled her best finish in the competition finished 28th in a field of 382 finishers - she was also runner-up in the junior women’s category.

They finish the season in 31st in the Division Two.

In the girls' competition, Jessica Moore finished in her highest position placing 12th in the U15s' race.

Megan Driver was 27th and Croydon finished seventh overall in the league.

In the U13 girls' category, Kyra Sethna-McIntosh spearheaded the Croydon challenge in 29th, followed by Sasha Howard (40th), Leanne Moore (42nd) and Cassandra Howard (44th). The team placed 10th overall.

Elsewhere, at the Newham Open, Lee McLaughlin moved inside the top 50 in the UK men’s 60m rankings after clocking 6.89secs. Tife Ajibade ran 7.36secs in the same event.

And at the South of England Masters Indoors, Tony Richards won bronze in the M65 shot putt in 10.88m, while Andy Del Nevo secured silver in the M45 1,500m in 5:05.9.
