More than 20 Croydon Harriers competed against the nation’s best at the England Cross-Country Championships in Castle Donington last weekend.

Kieron Connor bagged the club’s highest finish of the day in 149th in the U17 men’s race, supported by Luke Wakeling (211th) and Dane Lawrence (218th) in the 243-strong field.

The U13 boys' quartet placed 43rd, led by Imran Salim (319th), Zachary Blair (336th), Douglas Aikman (345th) and Murali Varathan (382nd). There were 420 finishers.

In the U15 boys' competition, Croydon finished 35th in the team ranks thanks to Jordan O’Dongo (283rd), Neal Kesterson (326th), Adam Shew (343rd), Caleb Drummond (357th).

Ifetobi Salako (360th) supplied non-scoring support in the field of 367.

Kyra Sethna-McIntosh was 170th in the U13 girls' race which had 449 competitors. Leanne Moore was 431st.

In the U15 girls ranks, Jessica Moore placed 190th with Megan Driver 235th in a field of 354.

The men’s team were led home by David White in 383rd, and was backed up by Glenn Barden (677th), Neil Aikman (962nd), James Moore (1071st), Colin Oxlade (1,092nd) and Matthew Kiernan (1,203rd).

The scoring six were 86th out of the 123 teams that closed in.

Norman Hemming (1,607th) completed his 25th English National cross-country championship.

Elsewhere, two Harriers were in action at the Vitality Brighton half-marathon, Alex Penfold was 61st out of 8,000 runners in one hour 18 minutes 38 seconds, followed by Mark Lynch in 69th, clocking 1.19:29.
