Collingwood’s men’s cross country team will compete in Division Three of the men’s Surrey League next season after securing promotion on Saturday.

In freezing conditions at Lloyd Park in Croydon, the club won the final fixture of the series and finished in second in Division Four, behind Woking.

Neil Reissland was their top performer as he came home second in 29 minutes, 25 seconds, with Ercole Lugari also making the top 10 as he finished in ninth in 32:20.

Robert Knight, Martin Lloyd, Steve Cooney, Bill Walsh, Dean Copper, Richard Cooper, Andy Alseben and Shaun Cooney all finished inside the top 23 to secure team victory.

They will face Sutton Runners in Division Three next season as a fifth-placed finish in Croydon on Saturday gave them fourth place overall, with Martin Giles their best-placed finisher in 10th in 30:19.

Collingwood and Sutton Runners both had women’s teams in action in the final Surrey Ladies League Division Two fixture in Esher.

Collingwood were the better of the two on the day as Mary James’ 10th place finish in 34:23 helped the team to 12th on the day and 15th overall, with Jenny Sinfield their second finisher in 39th in 39:16 Vicky Foad was Runners’ first finisher as she came 35th in 38:32 and the club were 15th on the day but eighth overall in the league.

Jenny Hersey came 48th in 40:16.
