Harry Aikines-Aryeetey cemented his place in Olympic history by becoming the first men’s 100m champion at the Olympic stadium on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Sutton & District club sprinter ran 10.42 seconds to take the title at the British Universities and Colleges Sports Outdoor Athletics Championships – which doubled up as a London 2012 test event.
“It feels absolutely amazing to have represented my university and become the first men’s 100m champion at the Olympic stadium,” said Aikines-Aryeetey, who was running for Loughborough University.
“The championships gave me the chance to compete inside the stadium ahead of the Olympic Games and I’ll certainly be using that to my advantage if I’m selected for Team GB this summer.”
