Sutton must do better this time

Sutton will hope to bring the good times back when the Ryman Surrey Championship kicks off again on Saturday.

Sutton struggled for most of last season and only secured their Premier Division safety on the last day as Ashtead and Cheam both dropped down to division one after a nervous end-of-season battle.

This year, they kick off away at Banstead as they look to get off to a good start and challenge the top half of the table.

Sutton have Surrey’s Arun Harinath available to play for them but he could find himself up against county colleagues Freddie van den Bergh, Rory Burns, Tom Lancefield and Matt Spriegel – who all play for Banstead.

Cheam meanwhile will be looking to bounce straight back up as they begin their campaign away at Brook.

Fellow division one side Beddington, seventh last year, host Old Whitgiftians and in division two, Worcester Park, who finished sixth in September, go to Walton-on-Thames.
