Banstead made it five wins in a row in the Surrey Championship Premier Division on Saturday with a comprehensive defeat of bottom club Weybridge.

The nine-wicket victory kept them at the top of the table but they face second-placed Guildford this Saturday, who themselves are undefeated this season, with five wins and one winning draw.

Banstead’s bowlers were in fine form against Weybridge having put their hosts into bat first.

Jonathan Speller and Richard Bedbrook took early wickets before Anthony Caddy joined the attack and went on to claim figures of 4-25 – taking his total to 14 in five matches this season.

Speller took 2-17 and Matt Spriegel 2-27 as Weybridge were all out for 102.

In-form Rory Burns was out for just 14 in reply but his fellow Surrey contracted cricketers Tom Lancefield (37 not out) and Spriegel (49 not out) took Banstead to their total inside 21 overs.

In Division One, Ashtead recovered from a bad start to beat Old Whitgiftians by 52 runs.

Having lost Dominic Sibley first ball and Zac Elkin soon after, Andrew Roberts’s 56 helped Ashtead post 177 all out, before Tom Deighton took 4-35 to bowl Whitgiftians out for 125. They host Dulwich this Saturday.
