AFC Wimbledon bowed out of the FA Cup on an afternoon of high drama and heartbreak at Stadium mk.

First they had their club stolen in 2002, and then they were robbed by a freak back heel in 2012.

Goals at the very end of each half condemned the spirited Dons to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the League One side.

But it was an afternoon of high emotion in which the Dons players did themselves proud and, for a long while, it seemed as if Jack Midson’s wonderful equalising header off Toby Ajala’s cross was going to force the tie to a replay.

However, Jon Otsemobor’s fortuitous last gasp winner broke the hearts of the travelling fans and instead it was MK alone in the hat for the third round.

The game started quietly and only the appearance of a fly-over by a plane pulling “We are Wimbledon” banner caused excitement beyond the fans’ trading of insults.

Stephen Gleeson’s 25-yard screamer opened the scoring just before the break to give MK the slenderest of advantages at half-time.

After Midson brought the teams level with his sixth goal of the season, the Dons had a great chance to take the lead when Stephen Gregory broke through with moments to go, but David Martin in the MK goal pulled off a terrific save to deny the skipper.

Then heartbreak – a scramble in the Dons’ penalty ended with Zeli Ismail’s weak shot being clipped over Neil Sullivan off Otsemobor’s heel.

At the final whistle, MK’s relief was obvious, such were the fine margin of their victory.

Reaction to follow.
