Doswell: Sutton United are ready for the table toppers
Sutton United boss Paul Doswell is convinced his men will not have the FA Cup on their minds when they return to action in the Skrill South this weekend.
His simple reasoning is that the visitors to Gander Green Lane on Saturday are Eastleigh, Doswell’s former employers and, moreover, the league’s table toppers.
United lie fourth, five points off the leaders, although they are unbeaten in eight league clashes – and 12 games in all competitions.
The sides met on the opening day of the season where a solitary point gave Eastleigh all three points.
Doswell said: “The players will not be thinking about the FA Cup, not with the league leaders coming here.
“We feel we will be in and around the top five, and if we want to challenge properly then Eastleigh represents a big game.
“It is a great game for us to have. If we had played someone not as good as Eastleigh, then maybe our minds would have drifted, but I can assure you that will not be the case.”
Doswell’s injury concerns centre on skipper Jamie Stuart who ended the Hemel match with a sore neck.
However, Doswell believes the central defender is likely to be available.
“Jamie went up for a header in the first half and he says it feels like a mini-whiplash,” he said.
“It is not looking too good at the moment, but with Jamie, in two days’ time, he will do something and ring me up and say he is fine. He’s like the bionic man, so I won’t rule him out.“
Kick-off tomorrow is 3pm.
