JONNY Williams has urged Eagles supporters to turn Selhurst Park into a fortress when they return home for a New Year’s Day clash with Norwich.

Palace fell to a 1-0 defeat by Manchester City at the Etihad two days after beating Aston Villa by the same scoreline.

But after moving out of the Premier League’s relegation zone over the festive period, Williams is hoping Selhurst will be rocking when the Canaries come to town and the hosts produce a better performance than in their 3-0 defeat by Newcastle last time out.

The 20-year-old said: “We are looking at the Norwich game after pretty good Christmas results and we will look for three points.

“We have to make Selhurst Park a fortress and make the place rock and the fans will be behind us all the way.

“It would nice to have a stadium like the Etihad packed of Palace fans - 50,000 of them.

“They were unbelievable again and I hope we’ve made them proud.”

Williams added: “The Newcastle game reminded me of the Swansea performance.

“Those two teams have come to our place and really outplayed us but we will have to try and put that right against Norwich.

“They’re a team we think we can beat and we should’ve got a result against them at Carrow Road.”

Williams came off the bench late in Palace’s 1-0 loss to Premier League leaders Man City on Saturday.

Tony Pulis’ men defended resolutely for over an hour before eventually being undone by Edin Dzeko’s strike from a Jesus Navas low cross in the 66th minute.

Williams, though, thinks the players should be proud of their performance after pushing the title favourites all the way at the Etihad.

He explained: “The margins between winning and losing in this league are fine.

“The performance and what we set out to do were fantastic, and not forgetting all the lads who played 90 minutes at Villa on Thursday as well.

“There was a lot to ask coming to Manchester City but the performance was fantastic and to lose 1-0 here is not a bad result.”

Williams added: “We were underdogs here and I thought the performance was great.

“They started to get frustrated in the second half and the goal killed us really.

“It’s a shame having done so well for most of the match to lose from a cutback is disappointing.

“We knew when we got promoted that this was the kind of thing we were going to be facing and we deserve to be here so we have got to enjoy it.”
