Bees boss Mark Warburton hailed the strength of his squad as a 10th consecutive home win kept his side top of the League One table on Tuesday night.

An Aden Flint own goal and further strikes from Alan Judge and Marcello Trotta the Bees a 3-1 win over Bristol City, despite conceding an early equaliser from ex-Bee Karleigh Osborne.

Club captain Kevin O'Connor again deputised for the injured Harlee Dean at the back and Warburton reckoned his display epitomised why his side,  are now favourites for automatic promotion.

"I thought the team did really well. We finished the first half very strongly," he said.

"I thought we were good value for 3-1 and they couldn't touch us. A dominant performance in difficult conditions.

"We had no doubts about Kevin O'Connor. He is the ultimate pro who has worked hard in training and again on a difficult surface and tough pitch I thought he and Tony Craig were tremendous tonight.

"It's a squad game. It's not going to be 11 or 14 who win you anything. The side with the best squad will win this league."

Brentford set out their stall early on as Jonathan Douglas played a lovely ball down the left hand wing, releasing Marcello Trotta, whose cross was cut out for a corner.

It didn't take the Bees long to go ahead when Aden Flint deflected a Jake Bidwell cross past Elliot Parish in City's goal.

The lead didn't last long as Osborne found plenty of space down the right wing and his fierce shot from just outside the box beat David Button.

It was the defender's last action as he was immediately substituted due to an injury.

The visitors could have taken the lead when Tyrone Barnett pounced on a knock-down but shot wide of the left hand post from six yards out.

The Bees regained the lead when Alan McCormack combined with Trotta, who set up Alan Judge in the box and despite Parish getting hands to his shot, the ball landed in the back of the net.

Just after half an hour a great pass from Douglas found Clayton Donaldson, but the striker's shot was blocked by Parish for a corner.

Three minutes before the break McCormack again found Judge, who cut the ball back from the by-line to the penalty spot, from where Trotta slotted the ball home.

But the second half failed to match the first for entertainment as neither side could add to their respective tallies.

Early on George Saville picked up the ball outside the box, but shot over the bar.

Substitute Jake Reeves shot wide of the left hand post from just outside the box, while both Jonathan Douglas and Shaleum Logan saw efforts blocked.
