David Button might not have tasted defeat in his past 17 games between the sticks for the Bees, but he and the squad are not taking anything for granted – and winning the League One title tops the agenda.

The 24-year-old former Charlton Athletic shotstopper pulled off an important late save to preserve three points for Brentford in last Friday’s 2-1 win over Gillingham, before having an easier time of things against Bristol City.

The Bees eased past City on Tuesday through an Aden Flint own goal and strikes from Alan Judge and Marcello Trotta for a 10th consecutive home win, and a 15th league success in 17 games.

But, while boss Mark Warburton’s squad may feel invincible, Button insists there is no room for complacency with promotion glory on offer.

“Talk is easy, but we do go into every game feeling like we’re going to win,” he said.

“It is not a case of us getting complacent we know how important every game is. When you are top you want to stay there and, if anything, you are even more up for these games.

“The lads know what our aim is. We want to go up this season. It makes it easier when you are in the top two.

“We’re setting out to win the league and if we can do that it will have been a great season.”

Warburton revealed this week that the squad had a points target in mind that would secure automatic promotion, as they aim to avoid play-off heartache.

But the former Watford academy coach, who takes his team to Shrewsbury Town tomorrow, is keeping that information close to his chest for the time being.

“We have got 47 points from a possible 51 from our last 17 games so we are in an excellent place at the moment,” he said.

“We do have a target and the players have set their own target, but that will stay behind closed doors for now.”

The Bees should have defender Harlee Dean and midfielder Adam Forshaw available for selection at the weekend, however, winger Sam Saunders is a few days behind them.
