Sutton United’s hopes of automatic promotion out of the Skrill South are fading after a defeat last weekend, but striker Gavin McCallum believes they have what it takes to win promotion via the play-offs.
United, five points behind leaders Eastleigh and having played two games more, need a minimum seven points from their final four games to be guaranteed a play-off spot.
McCallum said: “The play-offs are a lottery. You need experience to get through them, and we have lots in Damian [Scannell], Jamie [Taylor], Craig [Dundas] and Jamie [Slabber] .
“We all need to stick together and work hard.
“You need to have that confidence in yourself that you can beat any team, and we have that.”
Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Maidenhead, featuring a Jamie Taylor brace, was United’s first in 17 games, and they will be hoping to put that right this weekend when Ebbsfleet visit Gander Green Lane.
