Brentford deserve promotion and to stay in the Championship, says boss Warburton
Brentford boss Mark Warburton wants promotion sooner rather than later, not least because his men deserve it.
The Bees host Preston North End on Good Friday before travelling to MK Dons on Easter Monday knowing two wins could secure elevation to the Championship should results elsewhere go their way.
The Griffin Park chief has two lists of summer transfer targets drawn up depending on which division his side find themselves in.
Should the Bees reach the promised land, Warburton is set to hand those already under contract next term first dibs on adapting to life in the second tier of English football.
And he believes he already has the tools at his disposal to make an impact at the higher level.
“This group of players deserve to go up,” he said.
“Clubs in the promotion race are probably working to two different budgets and two different lists of targets for next season – we are no different.
“It is difficult logistically, but we have a strong nucleus to our squad and a number of players capable of playing at a higher level.
“We have no intention of going up and just surviving, we want to go up and compete and push on to the next level.”
A big crowd is expected at Griffin Park today [Friday] to cheer the Bees home to a potentially decisive win.
“Everyone in the squad knows all the permutations and what we need to do,” added Warburton.
“But Preston will be looking at this as their last chance to catch us for automatic promotion.”
“They are good team, so it should be a good game on a good pitch in lovely weather. What is there not to look forward to about that.
“We need to win and then take that on to the remaining three games, which are equally as important.
“All being well, we will be looking forward to celebrating on the Griffin Park pitch on the final day.”
