Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock wanted to bring in four new names on transfer deadline day, but in the end had to settle for three.

Top of the tree was the capture of midfielder James McArthur from Wigan Athletic on a three-year deal – his £7m transfer fee broke the club’s transfer record.

Warnock also brought in Wolves striker Kevin Doyle on a season-long loan, and defender Zeki Fryers on a three-year deal from Tottenham Hotspur for around £3m.

Going the other way was Glenn Murray, who has joined Reading of the Championship on loan until January.

MacArthur, a FA Cup winner in 2013 with Wigan Athletic, said: “I am delighted the deal’s all done and to be a Crystal Palace player.

“I want to keep them up and do great things here.”

He added: “Palace is a great club but it is the Premier League where every player wants to be, I am thankful to be back here and given the opportunity to play again.

“Barry [Bannan] has spoken very highly of the club but I already knew a great deal about Palace, it’s a great club and I am really looking forward to the future.”
