Stuart Dallas has been forced to become accustomed to the super sub role at Brentford – but he’ll do anythnig for the team.

The 23-year-old was a regular starter for Northern Ireland Premier League Crusaders prior to his switch to Griffin Park in 2012 and scored 24 goals in 67 appearances for the club.

He was named Northern Ireland football writers’ player of the year in 2011 and lifted an Irish League Cup and the Setanta Sports Cup to boot.

But Dallas is yet to hold down a regular starting slot for the Bees, having spent some of last season on loan at Northampton Town learning his trade.

Nine of his 15 appearances for Brentford this term have been from the bench and it has been a while since a Bees manager has been able to call on players of his ilk to change games.

While he was unable to make the difference in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield Town, Dallas, who recently signed a contract extension in June, is pleased to play his part.

“I cannot really argue with the team selection. We’d won five in a row before Saturday,” he said at the weekend.

“It is the manager’s decision and it is up to me – and it is the same for the rest of the lads on the bench – to make sure I’m ready to do a job when we are called upon.

“My career has kicked on, but that is all down to the coaching staff at Brentford, who have really helped me along.

“This is a very, very good team and a great bunch of lads. It is an exciting time to be a Brentford player.

“I’m really enjoying it and long may it continue.”
