Crystal Palace’s goal-scoring heroes have played down the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, preferring instead to look ahead to a crunch trip to Burnley next weekend.

Dwight Gayle and Jason Puncheon got the goals that over-turned Harry Kane’s opener to seal only Palace’s second win in 15 Premier League games.

But it also means Alan Pardew kicked off his Premier League reign as Palace boss with three points, and it lifted them out of the relegation places.

Gayle said: “For the first 15 minutes we were not in the game, but we grew into it and I thought we deserved the win in the end.

'Inappropriate' Jason Puncheon has a responsibility, says Alan Pardew

“At full-time, the boss had a lot of positive things to say, but the most important thing is that we continue it away at Burnley next weekend.”

Puncheon added: “The half-time chat was important - in the first half we stuck in there, but in the second half our performance was good.

“We did not have many chances to shoot in the first half, but in the second half and I thought when I get the chance I will hit the target, and I did.”

He added: “Tonight was like the Selhurst Park that we know, like from last season. It was important to get the three points today, but the massive game is next weekend.”
