Brentford goalkeeper David Button may be set for the Premier League next term whether or not the Bees win through the play-offs.

Boss Mark Warbuton's men head to Middlesbrough for their Championship play-off semi-final second leg on Friday needing to overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit to reach the final.

Button his impressed many observers over the past two seasons and Boro's advantage may have been greater, but for some crucial saves by the 26-year-old at Griffin Park last week.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood is said to be keen on signing a new number one this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph, with Brad Guzan flattering to deceive between the sticks this season and number two Shay Given nearing the end of his career.

Former Tottenham Spurs trainee Button has been on Sherwood's radar for a while with the Villa Park chief having worked with the ex-England youth international during Button's seven years at White Hart Lane as a youngster.

Perhaps more pertinent is the fact ex-Brentford keeper and current Spurs goalkeeping coach Tony Parks is a big fan of the player and believes he can become one of the country's best.

Bees midfielder Alex Pritchard, currently on a season-long loan at Griffin Park from Spurs, is also being tracked by Villa.

Warburton has already tipped the 22-year-old to appear in the Premier League next term and Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino is set to take a close look at the England U21 international during pre-season before deciding on where he should play his football next term.

Even if Spurs decide he is not ready for their first team, it is more likely the club would look to loan him out again rather than try to sell him.
