Striker Will Grigg has the chance to salvage his Brentford career under new head coach Marinus Djikhuizen.

The 24-year-old scored 22 goals and helped MK Dons to League One promotion behind champions Bristol City last term in a season-long loan spell with manager Karl Robinson's men.

It came in contrast to the Northern Ireland international's previous compaign where he struggled to settle in his first season at Griffin Park after a switch to west London from Walsall.

But Grigg, currently on Brentford's pre-season tour of Portugal, is back with the Bees and out to make the most of his second chance.

"After a successful season at MK Dons, I'm not surprised to be back," he told the club's website.

"It was a massive year for us. It was the final year of the gaffer's five-year plan for promotion.

"We had a great team and I benefited from it. They created loads of chances and it was nice to get on the scoresheet."

He added: "My first season at Brentford was difficullt. There were two internationals at the start and that hindered me playing in the team and getting to know the team as well. I got a few injuires, too.

"There were a lot of reasons why it didn't quite work out.

"But I had a great year last year and things have changed at the club since then and the manager wants to give me a chance.

"This is an important pre-season for me."
