Brentford may have secured a first three points of the seasoon at Bristol City on Saturday, but injuries will have left head coach Marinua Dijkhuizen in no mood to celebrate.

Goals from Alan Judge, a Derrick Williams own goal, Andre Gray and Philipp Hofmann eventually gave the Bees a 4-2 win at Bristol City on Saturday, having twice been behind.

Luke Freeman's first half dismissal - with Brentford trailing 2-1 - for a dangerous challenge on Bees centre back Harlee Dean, proved decisive as the Bees soon levelled through Williams' misfortune before securing the points in the second half.

Dijkhuizen had discovered that record signing Andreas Bjelland will miss the entire season due to serious knee ligament damage suffered on the 4-0 midweek Capital One Cup defeat to OXford United.

He later learned Spanish midfielder Jota would also be missing for between three and four months after he limped out of action in last Saturday's 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town.

The Bees signed Anderlecht full-back Maxime Colin on a four-year deal on Friday to replace the departed Moses Odubajo.

And it seems they will continue to be kept busy in the closing weeks of the transfer window as they bid to plug the shortages in their squad.

"It was an awful week,” said Dijkhuizen after Saturday's win.

“First the cup defeat to Oxford and the big injury to Andreas Bjelland.

"Jota is out for three or four months. That’s a lot of quality players injured in one week so I’m very happy with the result.”

He added: “It was an unbelievable first half.

"A lot happened, goals, yellow cards, red cards. It was enjoyable to watch. At the break it was already 2-2 and they had one man down, it was an incredible game.”

“We had to be patient. It was a very good second half.

"We got two good goals. We have good strikers, I like them both. Andre was fantastic again.”

Brentford, who head to Burnley on Saturday, are up to third in the Championship table.
