Brentford head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen is hoping the closure of the transfer window will help build stability at Griffin Park and see results improve.

The Bees signed Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ryan Woods on a permanent deal on deadline day as well as Red Bull Salzburg striker Marco Djuricin and Liverpool youngster Sergi Canos on lengthy loan deals.

Only Djuricin is likely to feature in Saturday’s trip to Leeds United with Dijkhuizen set to give 21-year-old Woods and 18-year-old Canos more time to adjust to life at a Championship club.

The Bees have had an unspectacular opening month of the campaign which culminated in them losing 3-1 at home to Reading prior to the international break.

And Dijkhuizen, who believes the transfer window only benefits clubs with money to burn, believes a settled squad is only going to help.

“I have learnt more in the last two months than I did in the previous three years of being a coach,” he said.

“This is a fresh start. It was difficult for everybody before the transfer window closed because of the uncertainty.

“Now it is clear to everybody – the players and the coaching staff – who is staying and who each player in the squad is competing against."

HE added: "We have started games very slowly and it has often taken them to score for us to wake up

"We have also not played a game where we have not conceded a goal. That is where we need to improve."

Winger Andy Gogia is a doubt for the trip to Elland Road where the Bees will face former boss Uwe Rosler, right.

But one man back in the fold after his first half substitution against the Royals is midfielder Toumani Diagouraga.

“It is not nice to be taken off after 30 minutes. I had it once before myself and I never forgot it,” added Dijkhuizen.

“It was nothing personal and I explained that to the team. We had gone 2-0 down and I didn’t want to make a defensive change.

“I was positive about his reaction. He did not make a fight about it. There was no problem.”
