Sutton United’s Dan Wishart is looking to the positives after a hamstring injury ended speculation over a move to the Football League side.

The England C full back had been linked with a move away from Gander Green Lane after impressing during United National League South title-winning season.

However, he picked a hamstring injury during United’s win over Torquay United earlier this month and any potential transfer will now have to wait until the January window.

The 24-year-old said: “It's nice to be linked, and I want to play at the highest level possible, but I love playing at United.

“I signed a new two-year contract in the summer, and the team spirit and closeness of the group makes it a fantastic place to come in to work.

“I need to keep working hard to improve, and we will see where that takes me.”

He added: “The gaffer has been brilliant with me, keeping me fully updated, and it's humbling to know how much everyone at the football club is trying to help in my progression.''

Boss Paul Doswell said: “Dan's had a huge amount of interest in him from Football League clubs, but the recent minor hamstring injury has meant that we've been unable to conclude any permanent transfer.

“Dan will be available for the game at Wrexham next Saturday, and I'm sure he will push on and join a really good League club in the future.

“In my opinion he will be a great asset to any league club, but for now he is our asset and I know Dan can't wait to get back playing and helping the team.”
