Bouncing back from a poor performance and result against struggling opposition is never easy, but it was an art perfected by United on Saturday.

Aside from the first 10 minutes or so, United were in almost complete control and on another day might actually have won more comfortably.

Having said that, even with just the one goal scored, Ross Worner never looked troubled, and the back line was simply outstanding even with Dean Beckwith missing again.

Personally I think Simon Downer had one of his best games in a United shirt, showing a nationwide TV audience just how good he is.

Nicky Bailey too was a standout player, though rarely a week goes by when he is not.

Now Dan Fitchett has netted this season I imagine his confidence will go through the roof and he’ll be ready to hit more, especially when partnered by the hard-working Max Biamou.

A lot has been said recently about needing attacking combinations that can get us goals, and those two up front could just be the answer.

Doswell has been tactically spot on in most games this season and will be eager to test himself against the club where he made his name, Eastleigh.

The Spitfires are unbeaten in seven games, but have only scored one goal in each of their past three games, so definitely aren’t unstoppable.

The three points against Tranmere takes a weight off the players’ shoulders a bit for this one, and the lads can play without pressure a bit against one of the league’s big budget sides.

Nevertheless it is performance on the pitch, not budget, that decides games – and United should be confident of recording another good result if they perform to their capabilities.
