Corinthian-Casuals Boss James Bracken believes his side are a better team than last year’s after putting on a five-star show at East Grinstead Town in the Bostik League South on Saturday.

Jerson Dos Santos grabbed the match ball in return for his second half hattrick after Reyon Dillon and Josh Uzun had put Corinth 2-0 up at half time.

Dillon opened the scoring after the half hour mark after a dominating performance from the Tolworth-based side. Josh Uzun doubled the lead via the penalty spot in the 38th minute.

The second half was very much the Dos Santos show with the striker, who joined Casuals just before the season started, netting a hattrick to give Casuals the 5-0 win.

“We played well but probably should’ve scored a lot more,” said Bracken after the win.

“I’m not exaggerating; we could’ve, and should’ve been four or five nil up at half time. We did a lot wrong. Our set pieces weren’t very good and we’ll address those.

“However, the result is obviously pleasing and there’s lots of positives to take. It’s pleasing to see the boys shooting a bit more. That’s probably been the one thing that’s been lacking in our game. We’ve had plenty of good possession and slick passages of play but we’ve been guilty of not creating chances and shooting.

Today, we went out there with instructions to shoot more and just be confident in what we’re doing. That showed. The only criticism I can give is that we didn’t score more.”

After an opening day defeat at Hastings United, Bracken’s side are undefeated in all competitions going into the Bank Holiday. But the Manager wants more.

“Six points from the first three games and a spot in the next round of the FA Cup is nice, But I want 9 points. Had we played Hastings United next week, who we lost to on the opening day, we would win.”

“I believe this is a better team than the one we had at the end of last season.

“We’ve done a lot of work with the way that we play. It’s not been often that I can sit back in the dugout and enjoy the last half hour.

“In the past, we’ve been too guilty of not killing games off when we should. We managed to do that today.

“That’s down to the amount of work we’ve done here behind the scenes. Others talk about coaching shapes and developing styles of play but I don’t see a lot from them.

“You can see with us what we’ve worked on. Other teams cannot get to grips with us at all. Long may that continue.”
